“Think globally, design locally” is a fitting mantra for this project–a waterfront, nature-centric, urban hotel–from the eco-forward 1 Hotel brand. INC Architecture & Design channeled the nautical vibe with artfully-sustainable interiors on the site of a former cargo wharf. It required a deep dive into Brooklyn style–everything reclaimed, repurposed, and DIY. But with fewer Edison bulbs.

The long, meandering building houses both the194-key hotel and a 106-unit apartment wing. Here, in the hotel’s penthouse private lounge, the waterfront provides a dramatic reminder of the area’s past, wooden boards reclaimed from local water towers reinforcing the concept. Earth-friendly cleaning products and recycled wood key cards further the project’s global eco-ambitions.
