Architect Peter Ippolito of Ippolito Fleitz Group transformed this two-story, 3,230-square-foot maisonette in Stuttgart for himself and his partner, textile designer Stefan Gabel. The space teleports visitors to varied and exotic places, filled as it is with Chinese vases, Maneki-neko, Laotian textiles, and African masks. The suggestion of greenery is omnipresent while weaves galore (in silk wallpaper, Uzbek ikat, Indian textiles) add yet more atmosphere. The result is that every room is a tableau vivant.
A ceiling fresco by French artist Alix Waline adorns the dining room, whose rosewood-top table serves as a pedestal for some very interesting objets. Leather-and-wood chairs are deliciously comfy. Pendant lights are suitably varied and eye-catching.
