Architect Peter Ippolito of Ippolito Fleitz Group transformed this two-story, 3,230-square-foot maisonette in Stuttgart for himself and his partner, textile designer Stefan Gabel. The space teleports visitors to varied and exotic places, filled as it is with Chinese vases, Maneki-neko, Laotian textiles, and African masks. The suggestion of greenery is omnipresent while weaves galore (in silk wallpaper, Uzbek ikat, Indian textiles) add yet more atmosphere. The result is that every room is a tableau vivant.

A suspended steel fireplace anchors the living room, featuring a color block wool rug, a Warren Platner wire-frame armchair, a Richard Serra etching, and a Donald Judd aquatint.
