Luna is inspired by good design—interiors, architecture, graphics and fashion. Luna believes that excellence in all things comes from discovering your strengths, and keeping them in focus. We don’t strive to be the biggest, but to be the best source of well-designed, elegant, and refined textiles and wallcoverings.

About
Luna Textiles.

Luna was founded in San Francisco in 1994, by Anna Hernandez and co-founder Michael Vanderbyl. They wanted to introduce textiles with a new sense of style to the contract furniture and hospitality markets.

As designers, we look to those who lead and inspire by example; individuals who have mastered their medium, whether it be art, design or architecture. We equally admire those whose creativity evades easy categories, who embody a daring sense of style or a refinement of taste that pervades their personality, seamlessly integrating life and work. At Luna, we recognize the debt we owe to others, and absorb the lessons of those whose achievements exert an enduring influence and who stand as icons of their time, past or present.

You will never see a chair in our advertisements, because Luna appreciates the intelligence of our audience. We showcase our designs in the form of handbags, chapeaux, messenger bags, shoes, and hatboxes. We’ve taken a more whimsical approach in our marketing to show how the fabric will tailor; how it visually translates when it is given shape with a nod to fashion.

We have always remained a small business at heart. Headquartered in a large, industrial building surrounded by shipyards and converted lofts in San Francisco’s Dogpatch neighborhood, Luna’s corporate environment invokes camaraderie and longevity with a small, dedicated staff, many of whom have been on board for longer than a decade. It’s not uncommon to find our head of operations weighing in on color selection in the design studio, or the vice president of marketing fielding inquiries in customer service. We bike to work, our dogs get cozy under our desks, and we’re perpetually torn between indie rock and classic soul internet radio stations. At the heart of Luna, we are a family.

Environmental
Information.

Luna supports the effort to create more environmentally responsible workplaces and is committed to developing sustainable fabric solutions whenever possible. Luna’s fabrics are designed for longevity.

We focus on a timeless design aesthetic rather than promoting passing trends. Our fabrics are woven by some of the best mills in the world and are very durable.

Whenever possible, we work with fiber content that is environmentally sustainable. In our collection, one can find:
• Post-consumer and post-industrial recycled polyester
• Eco Intelligent Polyester that is antimony-free and perpetually recyclable
• Rapidly renewable fibers, such as organic cotton and low-impact wool
• MBDC/Cradle to Cradle-certified, Oeko-Tex-certified, LEED-applicable textiles

Our suppliers operate with sustainable manufacturing processes, including:
• ISO 14001 environmental standard certification
• Optimized dyes that do not contain heavy metals
• Avoidance of chemicals of concern and use of low-VOC options
• Compliance with EPA regulations regarding waste disposal and emissions, including no toxins or effluents released into the ground or water table.
• Reduced water consumption and energy use, as well as reduced greenhouse gas emissions
• Recycled waste

Many of our fabrics are woven in the United States. We work with mill suppliers we know well, that provide high living wages and excellent working conditions. The weavers are expertly trained and educated, many from families that have been working for the same mills for generations.

At Luna Textiles, we have a passion to create the most beautiful, sustainable fabrics possible.
