About
Maya Romanoff.

Maya Romanoff continues to provide designers with the tools to make the places of living, working and playing emotionally resonant for their clients. We are one of the largest and most diversified artisanal manufacturers in North America. You can find our work in luxury homes, five-star hotels and restaurants, bespoke retail stores and the entertainment industry.

Company founder and namesake Maya Romanoff established the company in 1969 after discovering an inherent passion for dyeing textiles. Throughout the company’s evolution, Romanoff’s founding vision of transforming modern design by combining ancient artistic techniques with the latest production technology has held strong. Pushing technological boundaries allowed Romanoff to turn his affinity for organic beauty into marketable, avant-garde surface coverings.

Artisanal. American. Handcrafted.

Carbon Footprint and Sustainable Operations.

In 1969, Maya Romanoff founded his company by making beautiful collections by hand. Today, the majority of our wallcoverings are still completely handcrafted here in the Maya Romanoff Studio, and almost 50 years later, we continue to honor Romanoff's legacy and vision. As more companies return their manufacturing to the U.S. and the press trumpets the "return of American handcraft," make certain to remind your clients that Maya Romanoff never left!

Maya Romanoff’s most innovative designs include: Mother of Pearl, hand-inlaid tiles of genuine seashell; Ajiro, a microthin paulownia wood veneer; and Beadazzled, a flexible glass-bead wallcovering—the first of its kind and entirely fabricated by hand in Maya Romanoff’s Chicago studio.

These products have garnered many award recognitions, such as Interior Design’s Best of Year, HD Expo Best of Show and The Chicago Athenaeum’s Good Design Award. Beadazzled was inducted into the Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum’s permanent collection in 2003, and Flexi Mother of Pearl was inducted in 2014.
